Welcome to Vietnam!
Vietnam is a big country (with almost 100 million people!) located in Southeast Asia, on the east side of the Indo-China Peninsula. It’s a place where Eastern mystery meets French romance. Our nine-day Vietnam tour takes you deep into Vietnam, from Hanoi to Hoi An, Danang, and Ho Chi Minh City. You’ll bike through rice fields, sail in Halong Bay, and boat on the Mekong River.
On the first day you will just have arrived at Noi Bai International Airport, where you be welcomed by our English speaking guide and get a private transfer to your hotel for the check-in. You will be experiencing Vietnam directly on the highway and roads to your hotel. Please note that check-in time at the hotel is from 14:00 – 15:00. Early check-in is subject to the hotel’s availability. The rest of the day is free at your leisure. You can walk around the area of the hotel to discover some great local food, hop on a tuktuk to drive around the area, or just take a nap after your long journey!
This is going to be the first full day of sightseeing in which we will cover many highlights!
In the morning we will visit Ho Chi Minh Complex. Here you will learn all about the life of Ho Chi Minh, the nation’s founder. We will visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the colonial Presidential Palace, and the One Pillar Pagoda. Afterwards, we will continue to visit the Temple of Literature, known as the first university of Vietnam, was built in 1070 by the Ly Dynasty to honor Confucius, sages, and other outstanding Vietnamese scholars.
In the afternoon we will continue the tour and visit the interesting Museum of Ethnology. After this we’ll take a nice walk through the iconic Old Quarter. The streets of this district are bustling with scooters, bicycles and cars rushing around. The best way to enjoy the charming colonial architecture is to wander around with your guide. We will stop for a cup of Vietnamese coffee!
Your guide and private driver will accompany you back to your hotel. Or if you prefer to enjoy your dinner at your pace in the Old Quarter and soak up the atmosphere, you can return to your hotel at your convenience.
On day 3 you’ll be pickup by the driver and we will drive to Ha Long Bay, about 160 km or a 3.5-hour drive away. On the way, you will see some rural areas of the Red River Delta with plenty of chances to take photos of Vietnamese farmers working in paddy fields.
In the afternoon we will onboard the cruise and start sailing while having lunch. Now you can start to enjoy the mighty Ha Long bay view of karst islands and islets. You will visit Cap La Island. Enjoy kayaking between the limestone mountains, swimming, and relaxing after watching the bay view at sunset. There will be a cooking class from 17:30-18:30. We’ll have a great dinner together that evening.
Later in the evening, you can enjoy the night views of the bay from the top deck, play Vietnamese puzzle games, or try your luck fishing squid with the sailors (if the weather allows).
Note: the cruise itinerary in Ha Long Bay may be changed following the chosen cruise and weather.
Start your day full of energy with a Tai-chi class on the deck and watch the sunrise.
After the Tai-Chi we have a breakfast available for you before joining the tour in which w’ll be exploring the hidden Thien Canh Son Cave. After that you will be kindly asked to check out from your cabin on the boat, after which we’ll have brunch on board while heading to shore. At around 11:30, we will arrive at the port. Here we will disembark and transfer back to Hanoi airport for our flight (VJ 517 17:25-18:45) to Danang. Upon arrival at Danang Airport, we are welcomed by our local driver who will drive us to Hoi An!
On day 5 we start with a visit to the Hoi An Market, which is one of Vietnam’s best markets. Fresh produce and fish are available; this is also a suitable location to purchase some fine silk. Afterwards you’ll have a nice short cycling tour through the rice fields and peaceful villages that showcase areca flora.
At some point we’ll reach the local shipping wharf, where we’ll get on a fishing boat and enjoy experiences from learning traditional fishing techniques and how to row a unique Vietnamese bamboo basket boat, fishing and catching the crabs and coconut mussels while exploring the interesting waterways that have a turbulent history of war.
In the afternoon, we’ll visit Hoi An Ancient Town, a major trading center in Southeast Asia in the 16th century. Be amazed by the 200-year-old Tan Ky House, a beautiful home lovingly preserved over seven generations. We continue on foot to the Museum of Trade Ceramics, with fascinating pottery artefacts from all over Asia and the Middle East. Take a short walk through the historic town to the 17th-century Chinese Chua Ong Pagoda – the neighbourhood around it has distinctly Chinese-inspired buildings and is lovely to explore at a relaxed pace.
This is day 6 in Vietnam! In the morning, we will depart to the famous Ba Na Hills. We first will pass the sea shore on Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, one of the most beautiful roads of Da Nang City and we pass by Red Beach, where the French first landed in Da Nang.
Here you can take the Guinness World records winning cable car. You can watch the lush jungle and waterfalls along the way. We will cross the huge Golden Bridge which stands 1,400m above sea level in the Ba Na hills and extends over the treetops from the edge of a cliff face offering tourists amazing views of the beautiful landscape beneath. Once you’ve gazed for a while, we then go on to visit the Le Jardin.
Old wineries remain of French Villas and Ling Ung Pagoda with 27m high Buddha statue. We then leave for the second cable car station to visit the Peak of Chua Mountain at the height of 1,487m. You will also see the trail of Dreaming Stream, Rainbow Waterfall, Suspension Bridge, Golden Valley, and the ruined Opera House. After lunch, you may play with wild monkeys and take photos, and then we will return to the Cable car station at the foot of Ba Na Mountain. Afterward, we will transfer every back to the hotel for some well deserved relaxation.
On day 7 you will get on the flight to Ho Chi Minh City (VJ 625 10:45–12:05). Upon arrival in Ho Chi Minh City Airport, you will be picked up for a private transfer to your hotel. If your energy level allows, we will then head into the countryside near Ho Chi Minh City today to spend half a day exploring an incredible peace of engineering, the famed Cu Chi Tunnels.
You will gain insights into the struggle against invading armies and an appreciation for the resilience and spirit of the Vietnamese people. The residents of Cu Chi took the war underground into a highly developed network of tunnels that, at its height, stretched as far as Cambodia and included meeting rooms, kitchens, and triage areas. Impossible to see from the ground, enemy armies could roll their tanks over the bunkers without causing damage to the tunnels below.
On day 8 we will start with a short Ho Chi Minh City Walking Tour. You will visit the Notre Dame Cathedral. The neo-romanesque Catholic Basilica was constructed from 1877 to 1833 entirely of imported French building material, including bricks from Marseilles and stained-glass windows from Chartres. We then will head across the street to the Saigon Central Post Office, a beautiful architectural wonder with rich Gothic, Renaissance, and French influences.
Afterwards we travel by road to the Mekong Delta, the world’s largest delta and Vietnam’s “giant rice bowl”. On arrival in My Tho City, capital of Tieng Giang Provine, embark on a boat and navigate through intricate canals while observing the local daily life up close and the landscape of waterways and beautiful islands.
We will visit the Unicorn Island to walk around through gorgeous orchards, taste fresh fruits, and listen to Southern-style traditional Vietnamese music. We then move to the second delta province, Ben Tre, where you will watch local villagers make coconut candy in a rural workshop, walk around briefly and try riding a horse-pulled carriage. The days ends with some more cruising to some bee-keeping households to taste fresh homegrown honey and honey tea.
This is the last day. We’ll need to say goodbye :(. You will be at your own leisure until getting on private transfer to the airport for your departure flight (back home, or your next destination).
We hope you had an incredible journey you’ll never forget!
