Welcome to Japan! Upon arriving at the airport in Tokyo, you’ll make your own way to our designated hotel. Take this first evening to relax after your long flight or step out for a first taste of the city’s incredible energy. Get a good night’s rest, as your adventure begins in earnest tomorrow!
Today, we journey to the iconic Five Lakes region to behold Japan’s most sacred symbol: the breathtaking Mt. Fuji. We’ll visit the stunning Arakurayama Sengen Park, where you’ll climb the photogenic 5-story pagoda with the mountain as its backdrop—a scene you’ll recognize from countless postcards.
Then, we’ll experience the beauty of the area from the water on a serene cruise on Lake Kawaguchi, offering another magnificent perspective of Fuji-san (weather permitting). After soaking in the majestic views, we’ll return to the bustling metropolis of Tokyo for the evening.
Today is a fantastic contrast of Tokyo’s old and new souls. We’ll start with a tranquil visit to Meiji Jingu Shrine, a serene forest oasis dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his consort.
From spiritual serenity, we’ll dive into the famous organized chaos of the Shibuya Crossing and pay respects to the loyal Hachiko Statue. Next, we explore Senso-ji, Tokyo’s oldest temple, in the traditional Asakusa district—don’t forget to explore Nakamise-dori for souvenirs and snacks!
We’ll then get a distant but impressive view of the modern engineering marvel, the Tokyo Skytree. Finally, we’ll wander through the outer markets of Tsukiji, a foodie paradise brimming with fresh seafood and local delicacies.
Bid farewell to Tokyo as we experience a highlight of Japanese travel: the high-speed Shinkansen (Bullet Train) to Kyoto. Upon arrival, we’ll step into Japan’s imperial past. First, we visit Kinkaku-ji (The Golden Pavilion), a Zen temple breathtakingly covered in gold leaf, shimmering in its surrounding pond.
Then, we’ll explore Nijo Castle, the opulent residence of the Tokugawa shoguns. Be sure to walk through the “Nightingale Floors” of the palace—designed to chirp and warn the shogun of any approaching ninja!
Immerse yourself in the heart of traditional Kyoto today. We’ll begin at the vibrant Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates forming a path up the mountain—a truly unforgettable walk.
Next, we visit Kiyomizu-dera, the “Pure Water Temple,” perched on stilts with panoramic views of the city. We’ll then stroll down the charming preserved historic streets of Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka, perfect for picking up traditional sweets and crafts.
Our tour continues to Yasaka Shrine, before we conclude in the famous Gion district. Keep your eyes peeled in the evening—you might be lucky enough to spot a Geiko or Maiko (Kyoto’s geisha) on her way to an appointment.
Today, we travel first to the ancient capital of Nara. Here, we’ll visit the colossal Todaiji Temple, home to the Great Buddha—one of the largest bronze statues in the world.
The temple grounds are part of Nara Park, where hundreds of friendly, free-roaming deer, considered sacred messengers, will greet you. We’ll also see the beautiful Kasuga Taisha Shrine, known for its hundreds of bronze and stone lanterns.
In the afternoon, we continue to Osaka to visit the impressive Osaka Castle Park, a symbol of the city’s power and history. We’ll end the day with some retail therapy and street food at Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street, a bustling and vibrant covered arcade.
Your wonderful journey through Japan concludes today.
After breakfast at the hotel, you will independently transfer to Kansai International Airport (KIX) or Itami Airport (ITM) for your departing flight, filled with incredible memories of ancient temples, modern marvels, and the unique spirit of Japan. Sayonara, and safe travels.
