Starting and ending in Kaili, this unique journey takes you deep into the region’s countryside, visiting 14 distinctive Miao and Dong villages far from the crowds. You’ll be welcomed by friendly locals, join in traditional singing and dancing, and witness centuries-old crafts—such as batik making and paper crafting straight from the Tang Dynasty era.
Along the way, hike through terraced fields, explore lively minority markets, and experience authentic village life and ceremonies, including rituals in villages renowned for their grand songs, group weddings, and unique costumes. With an English-speaking guide and local accommodation, discover a side of China rarely seen by outsiders.

































Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kaili
– Meet your local guide and driver at the train station.
– Visit Matang Gejia Village to observe and experience traditional batik making.
– Continue to Langde Upper Miao Village. A welcome ceremony awaits, where you will be offered rice wine and entertained with singing by the Miao people.
– Overnight stay in Langde Upper Village.
Day 2: Langde Upper Village - Dali Dong Village
– Visit Paika Miao Village, known for its manufacture of the Lusheng musical instrument.
– Explore Xinqiao Miao Village in Datang Township, famous for its tradition of wearing Mini Skirts.
– Overnight stay in Dali Dong Village.
Day 3: Dali Dong Village - Tang’an Dong Village - Zhaoxing Dong Village
– Visit the minority groups market to see interesting and unique items.
– Upon arrival in Zhaoxing, check into the hotel, then take a local car or bus to Tang’an Dong Village.
– Hike from Tang’an Dong Village to Zhaoxing through the terraced fields (approximately 1 hour).
– Overnight stay in Zhaoxing Dong Village.
Day 4: Zhaoxing Dong Village – Rongjiang
– Visit Huanggang Dong Village in the morning, known as the origin of the Grand Song of the Dong people.
– Visit Zhanli Dong Village, where the tradition of group weddings is still observed twice a year.
– Visit Xiaohuang Dong Village.
– Continue to Basha Miao Village, where the men are known for their distinctive hairstyles and are allowed to carry guns.
– Overnight stay in Rongjiang.
Day 5: Rongjiang - Shiqiao - Kaili
– Visit Baibei Miao Village, one of the oldest Miao villages at the foot of Moon Mountain and the birthplace of traditional bird feather clothing.
– Visit Zenlei Shui Village.
– Explore Shiqiao Miao Village, where you can observe and experience traditional papermaking from tree bark, a skill dating back 1,300 years to the Tang Dynasty.
– Tour ends upon arrival in Kaili.

Dawei is a Tibetan Buddhist, and comes from the most north edge of the Tibetan plateau in Qinghai province, Western China. He has travelled as a tour leader to many South Asian countries such as India, Bhutan and also nearly the entire country of China. He focuse especially on guiding in Qinghai, Gansu, Sichuan, Ningxia provinces and Tibetan regions. The activities of these various tour groups have included adopting family, horse racing, hiking, bird watching, cycling, camping, overseas students, cultural and religious sightseeing.

Andrew was born and grew up in a small village of Zhangjiajie, Hunan. From 2009-2012 he works for royal Caribbean International cruise as an onboard guest services officer. After that, he dedicates his life/time to guiding and operating tours in Zhangjiajie and around. As a native person, he knows all the corner of the scenic area, such as good restaurants, souvenir shops and cultures.
